Seminole State Park to Brackettville

Last night the wind howled all night long and the temp did not really go down a lot. It left me worried for Pauls ride today. The wind makes his riding really hard if it is going the wrong way. Fortunately when we got up this morning the wind actually died down. I think it was in answer to prayer. This morning while Paul was riding I went on a ranger lead hike down into the Seminole canyon to see some petroglyphs. This is something I have always wanted to do and it was pretty neat to see. The walk was 2 miles and most of it was either up or down so I got hot and tired but of course nothing like Paul gets when he is riding all day. After my little hike I headed to Del Rio and a chance to go grocery shopping. It was nice to get to a city big enough to find what I wanted in the store. Of course it was Wal-Mart.I stocked up on things we were getting low on. Then I drove on to our camping spot for tonight. It is called Fort Clark Springs. It is a very nice RV Park but more than likely we will not use most of their amenities. They have a pool that holds 1 million gals of water. It is the 3rd largest in Texas. If it was right next door we might get in but we would have to drive maybe a mile and that would mean unhooking the trailer from the truck and that means I have more to do to get it ready in the morning. Also when Paul has been riding all day he doesn't really feel like being out in ther heat anymore. When I arrived at our campsite the truck said it was 91 degrees. Later when I went to see what the temp was when Paul came in it said it was 111 degrees. We are hanging out in our air conditioned trailer for now. We drove by the Armistad National Recreation area. It is huge. It was created by damming the Rio Grande below the junctions with the Pecos River and the Devils River. The ranger told us on our hike today that the humidity before the dam was about 10 percent in this area and that since the dam went in it is about 70 percent and may be contrubiting to the deterioration of the petroglyphs. Texas is in the middle of a drought and many of the plants look very dry. The Ranger told us that it had not rained since last July in this area. While I have been sitting here typing this a herd of 12 deer wandered across my field of view. Tonight for the first time in a while we have TV so I am going to listen to the news.
